Wychwood Solar Farm

Power for the people…

Wychwood Solar Farm is a pioneering, community based renewable energy scheme, modelled on similar hugely successful projects in Denmark. Situated in a centralised location within Shipton-under-Wychwood, the solar farm is designed to create a low carbon community and provides energy security for residents by generating approximately 700,000 kWh annually, the daytime energy equivalent of 200 homes. It was the first of its kind within West Oxfordshire and, at the time of construction, the largest off-grid system in the UK.

To make the project viable, New Energy Era needed to secure the premium Feed in Tariff (FiT) rate before the rapidly approaching reduction deadline. Power On Connections was commissioned to install the electricity infrastructure, which comprised of an export HV metered Ring Main Unit onto the host DNO network. The work involved specialist equipment, including meter units, and a bespoke design solution that would allow the power generated by the solar farm to be directed back onto the network. Power On Connections' expertise enabled the project to be completed one month ahead of the FiT reduction deadline and ensured the client’s investment was not wasted.

I found Power On Connections to be cost-effective, friendly, flexible, punctual and, above all, professional. In the limited time window available, the groundbreaking Wychwood Solar Farm would not have been achieved without Power On Connections' expertise. I cannot offer high enough praise.
