Frequently, the local utility network needs to be reinforced to provide sufficient capacity at a local substation to feed a new development. Where this occurs, the utility is entitled to seek a contribution for this work from the person requesting the new connection.

Determining the appropriate level of contribution can be subjective and open to challenge—particularly where the new capacity increase is small compared to the reinforcement proposed, or the upstream infrastructure being upgraded or replaced was arguably life expired or technically deficient in some way.

Power On has the necessary expertise and industry contacts to be able to assess the proposed utility charges against the wider background of load increase in the area, network condition and age, and appropriate cost models for the work required. We will then act on your behalf to negotiate a reduced contribution where we believe this is justified. If necessary, we will seek a determination from the industry regulator OFGEM if we do not believe the utility will offer a fair settlement.
